Southwest temporarily grounds 130 Boeing 737-800 airplanes over weight data
Southwest Airlines said late Wednesday it temporarily grounded 130 Boeing 737-800 aircraft after it discovered discrepancies in aircraft weight data.

BEFORE THE BELL
U.S. stock futures fell as investors braced for data likely to show persistently high levels of weekly jobless claims, adding to concerns about an economic rebound a day after the Federal Reserve issued an underwhelming stimulus plan. European shares tracked declines in Asian stock markets. The dollar erased gains after rebounding across the board in late Asian trade. Oil prices were little changed and gold prices slipped.

STOCKS TO WATCH
Alphabet Inc (GOOGL) & Facebook Inc (FB). Facebook will be "weakened" if it stops Australians from sharing news so the company can avoid paying for content under proposed laws, Australia's top antitrust regulator said. Australia has proposed forcing Facebook and internet search giant Google to pay local media outlets for content, drawing strong opposition from the U.S. companies in a dispute that is being watched by regulators and news organisations around the world. Meanwhile, Facebook-backed Libra project has appointed former HSBC European head James Emmett to lead Libra's operational unit tasked with developing and operating the project's cryptocurrency payments system, the Libra Association said.
Amgen Inc (AMGN) & Eli Lilly and Co (LLY). Eli Lilly has partnered with Amgen to increase the supply of its experimental COVID-19 antibody treatments, a day after one of the drugs was shown to reduce the need for hospitalization. Through the collaboration, the two companies will have the ability to scale up production should one or more of Lilly's antibody therapies prove receive regulatory approval, the companies said in a statement.
Applied Materials Inc (AMAT) & Lam Research Corp (LRCX). The companies that supply the chip sector with sophisticated and expensive equipment plan to warn the Trump administration against a proposal to blacklist China's top chipmaker, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp, arguing it would be "detrimental" to U.S. industry. The companies are represented by the semiconductor and electronics manufacturing suppliers industry group SEMI, which drafted a letter seen by Reuters that could be sent as soon as this week to Commerce Department Secretary Wilbur Ross. "We urge the Department to carefully consider the immediate and long-term detrimental impacts to U.S. industry, economic and national security that may result from the addition of SMIC to the Entity List," said the group, which has 2,400 members worldwide, including SMIC and U.S. chip equipment makers Lam Research and Applied Materials.
AT&T Inc (T). AT&T’s Warner Bros Games on Wednesday unveiled a Harry Potter game, "Hogwarts Legacy," that will let players experience life as a student at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the 1800s. The role-playing videogame, developed by Disney Infinity developer Avalanche, will release next year for Microsoft's Xbox Series S, Series X, and Xbox One consoles, as well as Sony's PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro, and PC.
BioNTech SE (BNTX) & Novartis AG (NVS). BioNTech is buying a production site for its coronavirus vaccine hopeful from Novartis to boost output by several million doses next year and hopes to have the shot ready to file for approval in October. Chief Executive Ugur Sahin said its experimental vaccine, which it is developing with Pfizer, could be reviewed by regulators in late October or early November, among the first in the western world.
Boeing Co (BA) & Southwest Airlines Co (LUV). The company said late Wednesday it temporarily grounded 130 Boeing 737-800 aircraft after it discovered discrepancies in aircraft weight data. The Dallas-based airline said in a statement that "out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily ceased flying the respective aircraft to enter the correct weights of the aircraft in question into the system and reset the program." Southwest said the discrepancy in weight data is 75 lbs.
Chevron Corp (CVX), EQT Corp (EQT) & Phillips 66 (PSX). Storm-tossed U.S. offshore energy producers and exporters began clearing debrisfrom Hurricane Sally and booting up idle Gulf of Mexico operations after hunkering down for five days. Crews returned to at least 30 offshore oil and gas platforms. Chevron began restaffing its Blind Faith and Petronius platforms in the Gulf of Mexico. Meanwhile, Phillips 66, which shut its 255,600-bpd Alliance, Louisiana, oil refinery ahead of the storm, said it was advancing planned maintenance at the facility and would keep processing halted. Separately, EQT has placed a bid on Chevron Corp's Appalachia gas properties and a pipeline stake, people familiar with the matter said. EQT offered $750 million for the properties, one of the people familiar with the matter said.
General Motors Co (GM). Delays to General Motors' sale of its Indian plant to Great Wall Motor due to tensions between India and China are likely to result in hefty unplanned costs for the U.S. automaker, people familiar with the matter said. Gaining Indian government approval for China-related deals is now expected to take quite some time and although the sale should still happen at some point, GM has not changed its plan to begin winding down the plant's operations next month, they said.
Moderna Inc (MRNA). If Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine proves to be at least 70 percent effective, the company plans to seek emergency authorization for its use in high-risk groups, the company's chief executive told Reuters. Moderna's vaccine candidate - mRNA-1273 - is nearing the finish line in its push to enroll 30,000 individuals in a late-stage trial of a novel coronavirus vaccine. But the company may be able to declare victory early if it is able to show that people who got the vaccine fared much better in its trial that people who didn't.
Oracle Corp (ORCL). China will need to approve ByteDance's proposed deal with Oracle for its TikTok app, the Chinese company said, indicating how its bid to stave off a ban in the United States could be further complicated. Oracle has submitted a proposal to the Trump administration that will allow it to become a technology partner in the TikTok app, as ByteDance hopes to head off a Trump order that it divest TikTok's U.S. operations. But U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday raised questions about ByteDance's plans to keep a majority stake in TikTok's U.S. operations and said he did not favor the idea of the Chinese firm retaining control, after six Republican lawmakers urged him to reject the proposal.
Sinovac Biotech Ltd (SVA). Sinovac Biotech has partnered with Alibaba Health Information Technology to build a platform for people to book inoculation with a potential coronavirus vaccine, said the company. The two firms signed a strategic pact about the platform, which will also offer services such as follow-up checks after vaccinations and proof of vaccination, Sinovac said on China's WeChat social media. Separately, the Chinese vaccine maker plans to start a clinical trial of its experimental coronavirus vaccine with children and adolescents later this month, widening its test on a shot that's already in the final stage of study with adults.
Sony Corp (SNE). Sony Corp said its next-generation PlayStation 5 console would launch in November priced at $499.99 and $399.99 for a version without a disk drive, as it squares off against rival Microsoft Corp's Xbox console. The pricing announcement sets the stage for a year-end showdown between Xbox and PlayStation, as consumers continue to flock to gaming optimised consoles offering exclusive titles.
Uber Technologies Inc (UBER). The company is planning to sell part of its $6.3 billion stake in Chinese ride-hailing firm Didi Chuxing to raise cash, Bloomberg News reported, citing people familiar with the matter. CEO Dara Khosrowshahi is in talks about the sale with Didi and SoftBank Group Corp, with a possible scenario of the Japanese conglomerate teaming up with other investors to acquire Uber's 15% stake in Didi, according to the report.
Walt Disney Co (DIS). Disney's live-action remake of "Mulan" opened to a lacklustre reception in Hong Kong, where pro-democracy activists have been leading calls to boycott the movie. Based on a Chinese folk story, the film has provoked a backlash in the Chinese-ruled city and elsewhere over its star's comments of support for Hong Kong police during protests last year and for being partly filmed in the Xinjiang region. At Mong Kok Broadway Theatre, in a popular protest area, Mulan sold one third of the tickets at its debut according to frontdesk staff, around 20% fewer than local movie "i'm livin' it" by Hing Fan Wong, which debuted at the same time.

Wake-up call: Na FED toelichting toch een draai omlaag

Goedemorgen

Guy
