Vreemde sessie vanavond

Global banks scrutinize their Hong Kong clients for pro-democracy ties -sources
Global wealth managers are examining whether their clients in Hong Kong have ties to the city's pro-democracy movement, in an attempt to avoid getting caught in the crosshairs of China's new national security law, according to six people with knowledge of the matter.

BEFORE THE BELL
Wall Street futures dipped as investors assessed the possibility of further damage to business activity from surging COVID-19 cases. Most European shares fell, dragged down by cyclical sectors, while investors remained cautiously optimistic about the ongoing talks over an EU-wide recovery fund. Japan’s Nikkei ended higher as expectations that the central bank would purchase exchange-traded funds offset weak exports data. The dollar edged lower against rival currencies, while gold inched up. Oil prices fell on fuel demand concerns.

STOCKS TO WATCH
Results
Koninklijke Philips NV (PHG). The Dutch health technology company said it expected to return to growth in the second half of the year, if hospitals and consumers were able to gradually overcome the first shock of the coronavirus pandemic. The firm said comparable sales dropped 6% in the second quarter, to 4.4 billion euros, as the global spread of COVID-19 hit demand for its consumer products and caused hospitals to delay the installation of new equipment. But the pandemic also spurred a 27% increase in new orders, as hospitals rushed to buy CT scanners, ventilators and monitoring equipment needed to help patients battling the respiratory disease. Philips said its adjusted earnings before interest, taxes and amortisation (EBITA) fell 24% to 418 million euros in the April-June period, beating analysts' expectations for a drop to 344 million euros.

Deals Of The Day
Chevron Corp (CVX) & Noble Energy Inc (NBL). Chevron said it agreed to buy Noble Energy in an all-stock deal, valuing the Houston-based oil and gas producer at $5 billion. The offer values Noble at $10.38 a share or 0.1191 Chevron share, a 7.5% premium to Noble's Friday close. The deal would value Noble at roughly $13 billion, including debt. Noble's assets will expand Chevron's presence in the DJ Basin of Colorado and the Permian Basin across West Texas and New Mexico. They would also add to Chevron's assets in the eastern Mediterranean and West Africa and yield potential annual cost savings of $300 million.

In Other News
Amazon.com Inc (AMZN). The company's total exports from small and medium sellers in India, part of a company programme to export products to global markets, have crossed the $2 billion mark, two company executives said. Current sales are still a fraction of India's total exports of goods and services, which are estimated at nearly $530 billion in the financial year that ended on March 31. "It took us three years plus to hit the first billion dollars, today we are able to hit the next billion dollars, 100% growth in the last 18 months," Gopal Pillai, vice president for seller services at Amazon India, said in a phone interview.
Cloudflare Inc (NET). The internet infrastructure firm said it was in the process of applying a fix after a number of its customers began "experiencing issues" on Friday. Disruptions percolated across the web late afternoon in the United States and Europe, hitting chat app Discord and retail site Shopify, among several others. Discord said in a message posted to Twitter that "an upstream internet issue" was to blame. Because sites across the world use Cloudflare to deliver web content to internet users and protect themselves from denial of service attacks, an outage at the San Francisco-based company can have knock-on effects across the globe.
Delta Air Lines Inc (DAL). The airlines told pilots on Friday it would avoid furloughs if they agreed to reduced guaranteed minimum pay, according to a memo seen by Reuters. Delta flight operations senior vice president John Laughter said in a memo the company is "committed to preventing involuntary furloughs for as many, if not all, Delta people." Laughter said the company proposed reducing guaranteed minimum pilot pay by 15% for 12 months in exchange for a guarantee of no furloughs for one year. Laughter said Delta pilots are currently being paid for more hours than they are actually flying. In June pilots flew about 10 actual hours and it will be 15.5 in July.
eBay Inc (EBAY). The online auction pioneer is in advanced talks to sell its classified-ads unit to Norwegian group Adevinta as the company seeks to refocus on its core marketplace business, the Wall Street Journal reported. The price of the cash-and-stock deal was not disclosed, but the eBay unit is expected to sell for roughly $8 billion or more and the agreement could be announced as soon as Monday, WSJ said, citing people familiar with the matter. Ebay's classified business includes brands such as Gumtree and Kijiji and offers online ads to more than 1,000 cities around the world.
Facebook Inc (FB) & Walt Disney Co (DIS). Disney has become the latest company to slash its advertising spending on Facebook as the social media giant faces an ad boycott over its handling of hate speech and controversial content, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday, citing people familiar with the situation. Disney has paused advertising of its streaming video service Disney+ on Facebook as the company is concerned about Facebook's enforcement of its policies surrounding objectionable content, the report said. The company has also paused ad spending on Facebook-owned Instagram for its another streaming service called Hulu, the report added. Separately, the Wall Street Journal reported on Friday the U.S. Federal Trade Commission is considering taking sworn testimony from Facebook's top executives Mark Zuckerberg and Sheryl Sandberg as a part of its probe into whether the company has engaged in unlawful monopolistic practices.
Ford Motor Co (F) & Intel Corp (INTC). Ford will work with Intel's autonomous driving unit, Mobileye, to develop an improved collision avoidance system for its vehicles, the No.2 U.S. carmaker said. Ford said the collaboration with Mobileye will be to develop improved camera-based collision warning, detection of vehicles and pedestrians and lane-keeping features for its vehicles, including F-150 and Mustang Mach-E cars. The carmaker said Mobileye will provide its EyeQ sensing technology along with a vision-processing software to support Ford's Co-Pilot360 system as well as a hands-free driving feature that will be introduced next year.
Goldman Sachs Group Inc (GS). Executives from the investment bank would resume negotiations with the Malaysian government this week over the recovery of assets lost in the scandal at sovereign fund 1MDB, Finance Minister Tengku Zafrul Abdul Aziz said. Confirming the arrival in Malaysia of the Goldman negotiating team in a statement, Tengku Zafrul expressed hope that the talks would "enable us to move closer towards achieving the desired results on the recovery of 1MDB assets." A source close to the government said Malaysia's attorney-general, Idrus Harun, will lead the Malaysian team in talks with Goldman Sachs' executives.
Pfizer Inc (PFE) & BioNTech SE (BNTX). Britain has signed deals to secure 90 million doses of two possible COVID-19 vaccines from an alliance of Pfizer and BioNTech, and French group Valneva, the business ministry said. The firms are aiming to make up to 100 million doses by the end of this year and potentially more than 1.2 billion doses by end of 2021, if the vaccine is successful. It uses the so-called messenger RNA approach, in contrast to the more traditional, inactivated whole virus vaccine being developed by Valneva.
Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co Ltd (TSM). Japan is aiming to invite the company or other global chipmakers to build an advanced chip manufacturing plant jointly with domestic chip equipment suppliers, the Yomiuri daily reported on Sunday. The government is planning to offer a total of several hundred billion yen, or equivalent to several billion dollars, over multiple years to overseas chipmakers who join the project, the daily said, without citing sources. A TSMC spokesperson denied there was any such plan at the moment when contacted by Reuters but said the company would not rule anything out in the future.
Twitter Inc (TWTR). The social media company said on Saturday that hackers were able to download account information for up to eight accounts involved in the hack of its systems this week, but said none of them were verified accounts. The company said the unidentified attackers targeted 130 accounts, and were able to reset passwords to take control of 45 of them and tweet from those accounts. "In cases where an account was taken over by the attacker, they may have been able to view additional information", Twitter said in the statement without specifying the type of information accessed. Meanwhile, the company disabled a campaign-style video that President Donald Trump retweeted on Saturday, citing a copyright complaint.

ANALYSIS
When the U.S. sneezes, the world catches a cold. What happens when it has severe COVID-19?
During a blue-sky moment in 2018 near the end of a decade-long economic expansion, it was the United States that helped pull the world along as the extra cash from tax cuts and government spending flowed through domestic and global markets.

ANALYSTS' RECOMMENDATION
BlackRock Inc (BLK). KBW raises target price to $614 from $560, following the company’s second-quarter results and noting operating income was above forecast driven by higher management fee and performance fee.
Moderna Inc (MRNA). JPMorgan cuts rating to neutral from overweight on valuation concerns and raises target price to $89 from $60, remaining bullish on Moderna’s long-term outlook and chances of being one of the first companies to bring a COVID-19 vaccine to market.
Schnitzer Steel Industries Inc (SCHN). Cowen and Company raises target price to $17 from $16, reflecting their higher FY20 and FY21 EBITDA forecasts.
