Amazon.com on Tuesday told employees whose work can be done from home that they can do so until June, extending the timeline on a return to office due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

BEFORE THE BELL
U.S. stock index futures were little changed, as investors held out for a bipartisan agreement over the next coronavirus aid package to support a fragile economy recovery. European shares fell, as losses in healthcare and construction stocks countered a lift from encouraging earnings. Japan’s Nikkei closed higher on optimism that U.S. lawmakers could reach an agreement on a pre-election stimulus package. Gold prices rose as the dollar weakened. Oil prices eased after a surprise build-up in U.S. crude stockpiles stoked concerns about a global supply glut.

STOCKS TO WATCH
Results
Netflix Inc (NFLX). The company posted its weakest subscriber gains in four years as streaming competition increased, pandemic restrictions eased and live sports returned to television. The company added 2.2 million paid subscribers globally during the quarter, missing Wall Street's target of 3.4 million and its own forecast. Earnings per share also landed below analyst expectations at $1.74. The consensus forecast was $2.14. Revenue rose 22.7% to $6.44 billion in the third quarter, edging past estimates of $6.38 billion. Net income rose to $790 million, or $1.74 per share, in the quarter from $665.2 million, or $1.47 per share, a year earlier.

Snap Inc (SNAP). The Snapchat messaging app owner beat user growth and revenue forecasts as more people signed up to chat with friends and family during the coronavirus pandemic. Daily active users (DAUs), a widely watched metric by investors and advertisers, rose 18% year-over-year to 249 million in the quarter, the company said in a statement. The company said it expected continued momentum in user growth and forecast about 257 million daily active users in the fourth quarter, exceeding analysts' current estimate of 249.81 million. Revenue, mainly from selling ads on the app, jumped 52% to $679 million, widely beating analysts' consensus estimate of $555.9 million.

Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (ERIC). The telecoms equipment supplier beat quarterly core earnings forecasts, helped by higher margins and China's 5G rollout, and said it was "more confident" about meeting its 2020 targets. Ericsson's gross margin, excluding restructuring charges, rose to 43.2% in the third quarter from 37.8% a year earlier, reaching a level last seen in 2006. Adjusted operating earnings rose to 9.0 billion Swedish crowns ($1.0 billion) from 6.5 billion a year earlier, beating analysts' mean forecast of 6.98 billion crowns. Total revenue rose 1% to 57.5 billion crowns. Separately, the company announced a five-year, multibillion-crowns deal with Telia to upgrade its 4G networks across Sweden and Estonia.

Deals Of The Day
PNM Resources Inc (PNM) & Avangrid Inc (AGR). Spain's Iberdrola announced a deal worth $8.3 billion including debt, adding PNM Resources to its Avangrid business to create the third-largest U.S. renewable energy operator. Absorbing PNM into Avangrid will create an operator present in 24 states, Iberdrola said, and bring together firms with a combined market value topping $20 billion. PNM's board unanimously approved the $4.3 billion offer to its shareholders of $50.3 per share, the filing said. Iberdrola expects the deal to close in 2021 and start boosting financial results from the first year.

In Other News
Amazon.com Inc (AMZN). The company told employees whose work can be done from home that they can do so until June, extending the timeline on a return to office due to the COVID-19 pandemic. "Employees who work in a role that can effectively be done from home are welcome to do so until June 30, 2021", an Amazon spokeswoman said in an emailed statement on Tuesday, adding the guidance is applicable globally. Amazon had earlier allowed that option until January.

Credit Suisse Group AG (CS). The company is teaming up with French group AXA to offer financial products on the Swiss bank's new digital banking app which launches next week, it said. Switzerland's second-biggest bank last month unveiled the CSX app that seeks to challenge fintechs such as Revolut by offering free foreign transactions and fully digital wealth management.

Eli Lilly and Co (LLY). The company said late on Tuesday it had hired an independent consultant to review a plant producing its promising COVID-19 drug after receiving notices from the U.S. health regulator. The company reiterated that it had not received a warning letter from the U.S. Food and Drugs Administration following inspections at the plant first revealed by Reuters last week. The company, however, also reiterated that it had received an Official Action Indicated (OAI) notice from the FDA in relation to issues at its Branchburg plant in New Jersey.

Gap Inc (GPS). The company is considering closing stores in some European countries, as the apparel retailer looks to save cash while dealing with a sales slump brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic and competition from fast-fashion companies. The San Francisco-based company, which had 129 Gap brand stores in Europe at the end of July, said late on Tuesday options being explored include the possible closure of outlets in the United Kingdom, France, Ireland and Italy by mid-2021.

Novartis AG (NVS). The company is seeking to repurpose its investigational oral spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) drug branaplam to treat Huntington's disease, the Swiss drugmaker said, as it plans a clinical trial after winning U.S. orphan drug designation. Novartis has been studying branaplam in SMA, but last year hinted that it would pivot to new neurological diseases after its head of research Jay Bradner said he did not see a "big opportunity" in its original disease indication.

United Airlines Holdings Inc (UAL). The company is set to test a digital health pass under a global pilot program seeking to establish a common international standard for COVID-19 test results and eventually vaccine records that could help reopen borders. The nonprofit initiative, called CommonPass, is backed by the World Economic Forum and Swiss-based foundation The Commons Project. If successful, it could persuade governments to ease the restrictions and quarantines that have slammed air travel since the coronavirus starting spreading across the globe.

Westpac Banking Corp (WBK). The company said it would sell its 10.7% stake in buy-now-pay-later firm Zip in a deal valued at about $260 million, as it aims to trim its portfolio and improve its capital position. Australia's second-largest lender said the sale will add around 8 basis points to its common equity tier 1 capital ratio. The offer price for the sale is A$6.65 per share, a discount of 6.1% to Zip's last closing price of A$7.08, and implies a deal values of about A$368 million for Westpac's stake.
