  • 18:15 ET Wednesday After Hours : prices levels vs. 4 pm ET: After digesting a slew of earnings that have produced wide gyrations in individual stock prices, the after hours market is... relatively unchanged. Presently, the S&P futures, at 1123, are flat with fair value, and the Nasdaq 100 futures, at 1151, are 2 points below fair value. Most of the earnings news has been encouraging, but a handful of disappointing pronouncements - such as KLA-Tencor's (KLAC) guidance - have held the market back.
  • Altera (ALTR) +3% : Programmable logic devices (PLD) manufacturer tops the Q1 (Mar) Reuters Research consensus EPS and sales estimates even after nudging up forecasts during its mid-quarter update; Company continues to experience strong end market demand, and issues better than expected Q2 (June) revenue guidance ($260-265 mln) on its call; 2H04 gross margin target was also increased to 67%
  • eBay (EBAY) +3%: Online marketplace exceeds the Street's Q1 (Mar) EPS estimate by $0.05 after guiding higher on Jan 21; Management also raises its FY04 (Dec) outlook for a second time and indicates that Q2 (June) revenue estimates may be too low
  • Juniper Networks (JNPR) -7%: Communications equipment company delivers upside in its Q1 (Mar) report and issues its first guidance including the impact of Netcreen; Numbers are not comparable to consensus estimates as a result of the latter, but Q2 (June) gross margin guidance of 68-69% is lower than the current product gross margin of 70.9%; Stock collapses in turn and takes CSCO (-2%) with it
  • KLA Tencor (KLAC) -9%: Third-largest chip maker surpasses the Q3 (Mar) Reuters Research consensus estimates, but gives a more tepid outlook for Q4 (June); On call, company put revenues at $440-450 mln (consensus of $457.8 mln), EPS at $0.43-0.45 (consensus of $0.43), and orders at down 15%-up 10% citing two large orders that may or may not close in Q4; AMAT & NVLS get hit off the news, both down 4%
  • Qualcomm (QCOM) +2% : Designer of CDMA technology reports Q2 (Mar) profits that rose 39% and revenues that increased 14% - ahead of both company guidance and consensus estimates; Qualcomm also boosts its yearly outlook and guides Q3 (June) EPS and revenues well above market expectations; ThinkEquity predicted such upside in Briefing.com's Earnings Preview on In-Play, a Platinum product
