Nieuwe week, nieuwe kansen.

D.R. Horton's profit beats on low mortgage rates, shift to suburbs
U.S. homebuilder D.R. Horton raised its forecast for 2021 home sales and topped Wall Street estimates for quarterly profit as low mortgage rates and a shift towards suburban living continued to whet buyer appetite.

BEFORE THE BELL
U.S. stock index futures edged lower as investors refrained from making big bets ahead of a series of quarterly earnings reports from Corporate America and Federal Reserve's policy meeting, while concerns over a pandemic-relief package also weighed on sentiment. Gains in financial services and chemical sectors helped European stocks rise. Japan’s Nikkei closed lower as worries about delays in distributing coronavirus vaccines, delay in U.S. stimulus package and jitters before earnings season triggered profit-taking. The dollar was little changed, and gold prices slipped. Oil ticked up amid reports of a blast in Saudi Arabia. U.S. consumer confidence data is due later in the day.

STOCKS TO WATCH
Results
3M Co: The company, which makes N95 face masks and Post-it notes, reported a higher quarterly profit, helped by an increase in demand for its healthcare products during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company forecast 2021 earnings per share at between $9.20 and $9.70, or $9.45 at the midpoint, which was below analysts' average estimate of $9.52 per share. 3M said its full-year total sales would grow in the range of 5% to 8%. Net income attributable to 3M rose 43% to $1.40 million, or $2.38 per share, in the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31.

Autoliv Inc: The company reported higher than expected quarterly earnings, boosted by a recovery in car production following a plunge due to the coronavirus pandemic. Autoliv said it expects around 20% organic sales growth and an adjusted operating margin of about 10% in 2021. Autoliv reported a fourth-quarter operating profit of $307 million compared with a $229 million profit in the year-ago quarter and a mean forecast of $283 million based on a poll of analysts published by the company. On an adjusted basis, operating earnings were $311 million, up from $242 million a year earlier, the company said. Quarterly like-for-like sales grew 12.7%.

D.R. Horton Inc: The homebuilder raised its forecast for 2021 home sales and topped Wall Street estimates for quarterly profit as low mortgage rates and a shift towards suburban living continued to whet buyer appetite. Horton now expects home sales in fiscal year 2021 to be between 80,000 and 82,000 homes, compared with its previous forecast of between 77,000 and 80,000 homes. Total revenue rose to $5.93 billion, from $4.02 billion on-year. Net income attributable to the company rose to $791.8 million, or $2.14 per share, from $431.3 million, or $1.16 per share, in the year-ago period.

General Electric Co: The company posted better-than-expected quarterly free cash flow and set an annual target for the key performance measure at $2.5 billion to $4.5 billion, as it benefits from a recovery at its power and renewable energy units. Profit at GE's power unit rose 3% in the quarter, compared with last year. Adjusted profit for the fourth quarter ended Dec. 31 came in at 8 cents per share.

Johnson & Johnson: The company said it would share details from its widely watched coronavirus vaccine trial soon, as the healthcare conglomerate races to develop a potential single-dose vaccine for COVID-19. Data from Johnson & Johnson's single-dose COVID-19 shot is expected this month, with global hopes to battle the virus riding on multiple vaccines to ensure adequate supply. Johnson & Johnson also forecast 2021 adjusted profit of between $9.40 and $9.60 per share after its fourth-quarter sales rose to $22.48 billion from $20.75 billion.

Novartis AG: The company said delays of two blockbuster hopefuls - heart drug Leqvio that cost it $10 billion and $2.1 million-per-patient Zolgensma - remain in regulators' hands, dragging on sales already hit by the pandemic. Chief Executive Vas Narasimhan, who reported fourth-quarter results that missed expectations, said cholesterol-reducing Leqvio's approval timeline depends on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, after the agency flagged a supplier's "facility inspection-related conditions". Moreover, expanding Zolgensma to older patients is stalled, as the FDA seeks safety data. Sales rose 1% to $12.77 billion, missing the $12.88 billion poll forecast, as COVID-19 lockdowns hurt drug sales. Novartis proposed raising its dividend 1.7% to 3 Swiss francs, and forecast 2021 net sales growing at a low- to mid-single-digit percentage rate.

UBS Group AG: The company reported its highest annual pre-tax profit of the post financial crisis era, as lending to the world's ultra-rich and bumper trading volumes during the global pandemic triggered a surge in revenue. The results handily beat forecasts, as investment gains and lower provisions for expected credit losses helped the bank post fourth-quarter net profit of $1.708 billion, nearly double the $966 million analysts expected for the quarter. Investment banking saw pre-tax profit jump to $529 million from a loss in the fourth quarter of 2019, thanks to double-digit revenue growth in both its trading and advisory businesses, and as it pared back costs.

Moves
Apollo Global Management Inc: Leon Black said on Monday he would step down as chief executive at Apollo Global Management, following an independent review of his ties to the late financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. While Black, whose net worth is pegged by Forbes at $8.2 billion, will remain Apollo's chairman, his decision to step down illustrates how doing business with Epstein weighed on the reputation of one of Wall Street's most prominent investment firms. Black co-founded Apollo 31 years ago. Apollo said it plans to change its corporate governance structure, doing away with shares with special voting rights that currently give Black and other co-founders effective control of the firm. The independent review, conducted by law firm Dechert LLP, found Black was not involved in any way with Epstein's criminal activities. Black paid Epstein $158 million for advice on tax and estate planning and related services between 2012 and 2017, according to the review.

Apple Inc: The company’s hardware engineering chief, Dan Riccio, will step down to oversee a new project, the iPhone maker said on Monday, providing few details on the longtime executive's latest role. Riccio will report to Chief Executive Officer Tim Cook, Apple said in a statement. He will be replaced by company veteran John Ternus, who will join the executive team as senior vice president of hardware engineering. Riccio, who joined Apple over two decades ago as vice president of product design, was named vice president of iPad hardware engineering in 2010 and leads the Mac, iPhone, iPad and iPod engineering teams.

In Other News
Alphabet Inc: Google said on Monday it will not make contributions from its political action committee this election cycle to any Congress member who voted against certifying the results of the presidential election. Earlier this month, following the violent storming of the U.S. Capitol, the tech giant had paused all political contributions to reassess its policies toward political contribution. "Following that review, the NetPAC board has decided that it will not be making any contributions this cycle to any member of Congress who voted against certification of the election results," a Google representative said in a statement.

Aspirational Consumer Lifestyle Corp: Wheels Up Partners is in talks to go public through a merger with blank-check acquisition company Aspirational Consumer Lifestyle in a deal which could value the private jet charter company at more than $2 billion, people familiar with the matter said on Monday. Aspirational Consumer Lifestyle has engaged with potential investors to buy into a private investment in public equity, or PIPE, transaction to raise additional funding for the deal to invest in Wheels Up, the sources said. The sources, who requested anonymity to discuss the transaction, cautioned that it is possible talks could still collapse.

AstraZeneca PLC: The company denied on Monday its COVID-19 vaccine is not very effective for people over 65, after German media reports said officials fear the vaccine may not be approved in the European Union for use in the elderly. German daily papers Handelsblatt and Bild said in separate reports the vaccine - co-developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University - had an efficacy of 8% or less than 10%, respectively, in those over 65. German officials were concerned that the vaccine may not receive approval from the EU's medicines authority EMA for use in those over 65, Bild said in its online edition. Meanwhile, there is no data that would suggest efficacy of only 8% among older people for AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine, the German health ministry said in response to corresponding media reports. Meanwhile, European Union member states could take AstraZeneca to court for a breach of supply contracts if the company does not honour the COVID-19 vaccine delivery schedule, Latvian foreign affairs minister Edgars Rinkevics said.

Blackstone Group Inc: India's Aadhar Housing Finance, backed by private equity firm Blackstone, has filed for an initial public offering of up to $999.68 million, draft papers submitted to the market regulator showed. The offering will comprise a fresh issue of shares worth up to 15 billion rupees by the housing financier and shares worth up to 58 billion rupees by BCP Topco VII Pte Ltd, an entity managed by Blackstone that owns 98.72% in the company.

Endo International Plc & Amneal Pharmaceuticals Inc: The U.S. Federal Trade Commission said on Monday it has filed a lawsuit against Endo Pharmaceuticals and Impax Laboratories that alleges a 2017 agreement eliminated competition between the companies for the pain medicine oxymorphone ER. In addition to Endo Pharmaceuticals and Impax Laboratories, the lawsuit names as defendants Endo International and Impax's owner, Amneal Pharmaceuticals, the agency said. Endo said in a statement that the lawsuit was "meritless" and that its agreement with Impax "had no adverse impact on actual or potential competition."

Merck & Co Inc: A U.S. judge granted a Reuters request to unseal Merck & Co documents produced in lawsuits related to its anti-baldness treatment Propecia, finding that the public's right to access outweighed the drug maker's arguments for keeping the information secret. Plaintiffs suing Merck alleged that the company did not fully disclose on Propecia's label the incidence and duration of sexual dysfunction in men who took the drug in clinical trials. As part of an investigation of the impact of court secrecy on public health and safety, Reuters published an article in 2019 that examined the basis for those allegations, but many internal Merck documents that might have shed further light on the case remained under seal.

Pfizer Inc: Sweden's Health Agency has paused COVID-19 vaccine payments to Pfizer and is seeking clarification over the amount of doses available in each vial, Swedish daily Dagens Nyheter reported. Sweden is seeking clarity on the number of doses it has been billed after Pfizer charged for six doses in each vial rather than the agreed upon five doses. Sweden now want the EU Commission and Pfizer to reach an agreement on how many doses there are contained in each vial. "Until then, we have told the company that we must wait with the invoices that are available until we get clarity on what applies," Chief Epidemiologist Anders Tegnell told Dagens Nyheter.

Wake-up call: Vreemde bewegingen, blijf alert want er komt iets !!

Goedemorgen
