Markt snapshot Wall Street vandaag

TOP NEWS
On cusp of Brexit trade deal, EU and UK haggle over fish
Britain and the European Union were on the cusp of striking a narrow trade deal, swerving away from a chaotic finale to a Brexit split that has shaken the 70-year project to forge European unity from the ruins of World War Two.

Democrats want rushed vote on Trump's $2,000 coronavirus aid checks
Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives aim to win quick passage of legislation providing $2,000 in direct payments to Americans as part of a coronavirus economic relief initiative after President Donald Trump unexpectedly insisted on the provision.

China launches antitrust probe into tech giant Alibaba
China has launched an antitrust investigation into Alibaba Group and will summon the tech giant's Ant Group affiliate to meet in coming days, regulators said, in the latest blow for Jack Ma's e-commerce and fintech empire.

Pandemic prompts Wall Street to look south for Florida's life and work benefits
A bevy of Wall Street executives, bankers and fund managers are abandoning New York for Florida, embracing the Sunshine State over metropolitan New York as the coronavirus pandemic has eliminated many benefits of working from a global financial hub.

Brazil institute says CoronaVac efficacy above 50%, but delays full results
Brazilian researchers said on Wednesday the COVID-19 vaccine developed by China's Sinovac Biotech is more than 50% effective based on trial data, but again withheld full results at the company's request, raising questions about transparency.

BEFORE THE BELL
U.S. stock futures pointed to a stronger opening for indexes and world stocks rallied as Britain and the European Union closed in on a free-trade deal and investors wagered on a global economic recovery. Gold prices rose, supported by a weaker dollar ahead of the trade deal and as uncertainties around a new variant of the coronavirus overshadowed vaccine optimism. Oil prices edged down but were holding well above $50 per barrel in light holiday trade as a drop in U.S. stockpiles spurred demand hopes.

STOCKS TO WATCH
Alibaba Group Holding Ltd (BABA). China has launched an antitrust investigation into the company and will summon the tech giant's Ant Group affiliate to meet in coming days, regulators said, in the latest blow for Jack Ma's e-commerce and fintech empire. Regulators have warned Alibaba about the so-called "choosing one from two" practice under which merchants are required to sign exclusive cooperation pacts preventing them from offering products on rival platforms. The State Administration for Market Regulation said that it had launched a probe into the practice. Financial regulators will also meet with Alibaba's Ant Group fintech arm in coming days, according to a separate statement by the People's Bank of China, casting another cloud over a potential revival of the share sale.

American Airlines Group Inc (AAL). The airlines said on Wednesday it is moving forward with plans to bring back furloughed workers and give them pay checks by Dec. 24, even after President Donald Trump threatened to veto a coronavirus relief bill. "While this is an unexpected development, we are moving forward with recall plans and furloughed team members will receive funds in their accounts on Christmas Eve as planned," a spokeswoman for American said. Nearly 8,000 American Airlines flight attendants have already received recall letters, the company said, and similar letters are going out in phases to other employees across the company. The letters, sent by email and FedEx, ask flight attendants to either accept the recall or resign by Jan. 4.

Apollo Global Management Inc (APO). The company said on Wednesday a group of institutional investors led by the private-equity firm would buy a 49.9% stake in Anheuser-Busch InBev's U.S.-based metal container plants for about $3 billion. AB InBev separately said the deal would allow it to generate proceeds to repay debt and create shareholder value and added it would retain operational control of the plants. The brewer said it has signed a long-term supply agreement for meeting its can needs over the duration of the deal with Apollo.

Facebook Inc (FB). The company said it has removed the page of Australian celebrity chef turned conspiracy theorist Pete Evans for spreading misinformation about COVID-19, the tech giant's latest move to police false content about the pandemic. Evans, a former judge on prime time Australian cooking shows with a large catalogue of cookbooks, has become one of the country's most prominent spreaders of baseless claims questioning COVID-19, calling it a "hoax" and "BS" to his million Facebook followers. He has also urged people not to get tested for the virus or take a vaccine. "We don't allow anyone to share misinformation about COVID-19 that could lead to imminent physical harm or (about) COVID-19 vaccines that have been debunked by public health experts," Facebook said in a statement.

Moderna Inc (MRNA). The company said on Wednesday it expects that the immunity induced by its COVID-19 vaccine would be protective against the coronavirus variants reported in the UK. The company said it plans to run tests to confirm the vaccine's activity against any strain. The company said it expects its vaccine, which was recently granted the U.S. emergency use authorization, to be protective against the UK variant based on data to date. "We have already tested sera from animals and humans vaccinated with the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine against a number of previous variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus that have emerged since the first outbreak of the pandemic and found our vaccine to remain equally effective," Moderna said.

Pfizer Inc (PFE) & Johnson & Johnson (JNJ). South Korea has signed deals with Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen to import coronavirus vaccines to cover up to 16 million people, as it grapples with the third wave of the pandemic, the prime minister said on Thursday. The government has faced growing public pressure over their COVID-19 vaccine procurement plans as the country reported its second-highest daily tally of cases on Wednesday. Pfizer’s two-dose vaccine, developed with German partner BioNTech, will be enough to cover 10 million people and its shipment is expected in the third quarter of 2021. "We are mobilising the entire national capabilities to bring in the shipments within the second quarter," Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun told a televised briefing. "The negotiation is underway." Separately, French medical regulator has said it had approved the vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech for France's vaccination rollout, after the European Medicines Agency gave its go-ahead on Monday.

Sinovac Biotech (SVA). Brazilian researchers said on Wednesday the COVID-19 vaccine developed by the comapny is more than 50% effective based on trial data, but again withheld full results at the company's request, raising questions about transparency. Officials from the Sao Paulo state government's Butantan Institute declined to specify the efficacy rate from a trial they led with 13,000 volunteers, citing contractual obligations with Sinovac. They said, however, the vaccine was effective enough against the novel coronavirus for it to be approved for emergency use in Brazil. Health regulator Anvisa has stipulated an efficacy rate of at least 50% for vaccines in the pandemic.

SPECIAL REPORT
How a British COVID-19 vaccine went from pole position to troubled start
On June 5, researchers at the University of Oxford quietly made a change to a late-stage clinical trial of their COVID-19 vaccine. In an amendment noted in a document marked CONFIDENTIAL, they said they were adding a new group of participants. The adjustment might seem minor in a large-scale study. But it masked a mistake that would have potentially far-reaching consequences: Many of the United Kingdom trial subjects had inadvertently been given only about a half dose of the vaccine.

ANALYSTS' RECOMMENDATION
Capital Bancorp Inc (CBNK). KBW raises price target to $15 from $14, following the company's recently expired dutch auction which saw it repurchase shares and an increased outlook for mortgage revenue in the fourth quarter.

Intra-Cellular Therapies Inc (ITCI). RBC raises price target to $40 from $36, stating that the company's Caplyta treatment for schizophrenia had favorable commercial potential and positive data in bipolar depression.

MVB Financial Corp (MVBF). KBW raises price target to $21 from $19, citing management's committment to a more positive outlook, driven by higher credit card and mortgage fees and a higher core Net Interest Margin.

Paychex Inc (PAYX). Jefferies raises price target to $95 from $85, following strong second-quarter results that beat estimates, driven by increases in the client base and higher penetration of add-on solutions.

Prothena Corporation PLC (PRTA). RBC raises price target to $14 from $12, noting that the company's lead asset prasinezumab is a potential disease-modifying agent for the treatment of Parkinson’s disease and is entering into phase-2 trials in 2021.

Wake-up call: Halve sessie, DAX dicht en KERST aanbieding

Goedemorgen
