Google has been targeted by a French consumer group and its peers in complaints to privacy watchdogs over its vast trove of users' personal data harvested via their Google accounts, European consumer organisation BEUC said.

OPEC+ enters a second and final day of meetings with sources saying the group is unlikely to decide imminently to pump more barrels to the market beyond August.

With IPOs on ice, banks' stock offering fees plummet
Recession fears and Russia's invasion of Ukraine sent a chill through equity capital markets in the second quarter, depriving bankers of lucrative fees for arranging stock sales such as initial public offerings (IPOs).

Pfizer said it is seeking full U.S. approval for its oral COVID-19 antiviral treatment Paxlovid, which is currently available under an emergency use authorization.

U.S. watchdog to audit FAA oversight of Boeing 787, 737 production
The office of the inspector general of the U.S. Transportation Department will audit the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA's) oversight of Boeing 737 and 787 production, it said on Wednesday.

BEFORE THE BELL
U.S. stock index futures and European shares slid on worries that central banks determined to tame inflation will hamper global economic growth. In Asian markets, Japan's Nikkei dropped on weak monthly production data, while Chinese stocks marked their best month in nearly two years supported by signs of an economic recovery after the easing of COVID-19 restrictions. Bound for its worst quarter, gold prices fell while the dollar strengthened. Oil prices steadied as investors weighed concerns over global supply against a build in U.S. fuel product inventories.

STOCKS TO WATCH
Alphabet Inc: Google has been targeted by a French consumer group and its peers in complaints to privacy watchdogs over its vast trove of users' personal data harvested via their Google accounts, European consumer organisation BEUC said. In addition to the French consumer group, others in Greece, the Czech Republic, Norway and Slovenia have taken their complaints to their data protection authorities, BEUC said. It said the German consumer body had sent a letter to Google that could lead to a civil lawsuit, while consumer agencies in the Netherlands, Denmark and Sweden have written to their privacy regulators alerting them about Google's practices. BEUC said the issue was Google's account sign-up process. Separately, French defence company Thales said it has created a new firm, dubbed S3NS, in partnership with Google to offer state-vetted cloud computing services for the storage of some of the country's most sensitive data. Additionally, a Republican member of the Federal Communications Commission has urged the chief executives of Apple and Google to kick Chinese-owned TikTok out of its app stores.

AstraZeneca Plc: The company said a combination of its cancer drug, Imfinzi, and chemotherapy showed promise in a late-stage trial in patients with an aggressive form of lung cancer, when given before surgery. Data showed the combination was more effective in removing cancer cells in tissue samples taken during surgery when compared with just chemotherapy in patients with non-small cell lung cancer, the Anglo-Swedish drugmaker said.

Boeing Co: The office of the inspector general of the U.S. Transportation Department will audit the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA's) oversight of Boeing 737 and 787 production, it said on Wednesday. The watchdog said it would review the FAA's processes for "identifying and resolving" production issues and "addressing allegations of undue pressure within the production environment." The Office of Inspector General (OIG) said since 2019 "a number of concerns have been raised regarding production of the Boeing 737 and 787 aircraft - the two production lines with the largest number of aircraft on order."

Booz Allen Hamilton Holding Corp: The U.S. Justice Department filed a lawsuit on Wednesday asking a court to stop Booz Allen Hamilton's planned purchase of rival EverWatch, according to a complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Maryland. The deal was announced in March. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The Justice Department said the deal would have threatened competition to provide the National Security Agency with operational modeling and simulation services. The deal, if allowed, would leave just one company to provide these services, the department said.

BP Plc: The oil producer on Wednesday joined Shell in pledging to cover travel expenses for U.S. employee health care treatment following a Supreme Court decision overturning the Constitutional right to an abortion. Neither of the two European companies explicitly named abortion in their statements. They were the first oil producers to update their health care plans to extend benefits for women, while U.S. oil majors remained silent on the issue. BP will "assist with travel expenses for covered health care services that cannot be obtained near where an employee lives," the company said in response to questions over Friday's Supreme Court opinion overruling the Roe v. Wade decision.

Coinbase Global Inc: The cryptocurrency exchange has renewed focus on its expansion in Europe and is in the process of registering in markets including Italy, Spain, France and the Netherlands, Bloomberg News reported on Wednesday. "In all these markets our intention is to have retail and institutional products," the report quoted Nana Murugesan, Coinbase's vice president of business development and international, as saying in an interview.

Costco Wholesale Corp: Australia's Brambles said it had cancelled its investment in plastic pallets for customers who supply to Costco, ending a three-year old project after the companies failed to agree on pricing and commercial terms. The decision takes the company out of the U.S.-based big-box retailer's plans to migrate all pallets used in its supply chains to plastic over time, given their longevity and low maintenance needs. The Australian supply chain logistics firm said last year it would invest in Costco's shift to plastic pallets only if return on capital invested (ROCI) was over 15%.Brambles had spent about A$20 million so far on trials of the plastic pallets, according to local media.

Frontier Group Holdings Inc & Spirit Airlines Inc: Spirit on Wednesday deferred a shareholder vote on Frontier's merger offer for the budget carrier until next week. Its shareholders had been scheduled to finalize their vote at a special meeting on Thursday. The Florida-based carrier said the meeting will now reconvene on July 8. This was the second time Spirit has delayed the vote, suggesting it had not convinced enough shareholders to back the deal, which is being contested by JetBlue Airways.

Kinder Morgan Inc: The pipeline operator Kinder Morgan gave the greenlight to financing expanded capacity on a natural gas pipeline that brings fuel from fields in west Texas to export hubs near Houston, the company said on Wednesday. The expansion comes as several new liquefied natural gas (LNG) processing plants have been proposed along the U.S. Gulf Coast to meet rising demand in Europe and Asia. The proposed LNG plants would require about 3.1 billion cubic feet per day of new gas supply.

McDonald's Corp: Italy's antitrust authority said it had closed an investigation launched last year over U.S. fast-food chain McDonald's franchise terms in the country. The AGCM regulator said that the company had committed to removing clauses in contracts with its Italian affiliates which could raise economic dependence issues and "which could unduly condition their work and reduce, in an unjustified way, their profit margins". "The Authority considered that the commitments proposed were adequate to remove the competition concerns related to abuse of economic dependence alleged in the opening proceedings," it said in a statement.

Novartis AG: The company said it resumed the production and delivery of radioligand therapy medicines after fixing the issues that had led to a temporary suspension of production last month. "The company has remediated the issues that led to the temporary, voluntary suspension of production in May," the Swiss drugmaker said, adding these issues did not affect patient safety.

Pfizer Inc & BioNTech SE: Pfizer said it is seeking full U.S. approval for its oral COVID-19 antiviral treatment Paxlovid, which is currently available under an emergency use authorization. Pfizer said it submitted a New Drug Application for Paxlovid to the Food and Drug Administration for the treatment of COVID-19 in vaccinated and unvaccinated people at high risk for progression to severe illness. That is basically consistent with the drug's current EUA, which Pfizer said covers 50% to 60% of the U.S. population, citing estimates from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Separately, Pfizer and partner BioNTech said on Wednesday they signed a $3.2 billion deal with the U.S. government for 105 million doses of their COVID-19 vaccine, which could be delivered as soon as later this summer. Additionally, BioNTech said the two companies would start tests on humans of next-generation shots that protect against a wide variety of coronaviruses in the second half of the year.

TotalEnergies SE: The company, under pressure from the French government to do more to help consumers tackle higher energy costs, announced discounts on pump prices at French motorway petrol stations. The French energy group said that it would offer a 0.12 euros-per-litre discount on fuel at motorway service stations in France from July 1 to Aug. 31. This would result in an overall discount at TotalEnergies service stations of 0.30 euros per litre, coming on top of French state discounts of 0.18 euros.

UBS Group AG: The wealth manager and banking group will pay $25 million to settle fraud charges relating to an options trading strategy, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) said on Wednesday. UBS marketed and sold the "Yield Enhancement Strategy (YES)" to about 600 investors through its platform of domestic financial advisers from February 2016 through February 2017, the SEC said, adding its order found that UBS did not provide its financial advisers with adequate training and oversight in the strategy. Although UBS recognized and documented the possibility of significant risk in those investments, it failed to share this data with advisers or clients, the SEC said.

Walt Disney Co: More than a thousand visitors streamed in as the company's Shanghai Disney Resort theme park opened after a closure of three months, with face masks and social distancing the order of the day. The park shut on March 21 as cases rose in the Chinese business hub, leading to a two-month-long citywide lockdown that eased on June 1. Just over a week later, the resort began opening some areas, with the theme park the last to re-open. After the re-opening, it requires guests to show proof of a negative COVID test taken within the last 72 hours, in line with rules for public areas in Shanghai and other cities. The park has also said it will limit capacity, but gave no details, adding that some attractions, such as Marvel Universe, will stay closed.

Xerox Holdings Corp: The printer maker said on Wednesday Chief Executive Officer John Visentin, 59, has died due to complications from an ongoing illness. Xerox called Visentin's death unexpected and said it has named Steve Bandrowczak, president and chief operations officer, as interim CEO. Visentin, who was also the vice chairman, joined Xerox as its CEO in May 2018 after he was nominated by Carl Icahn. The activist investor's firm is the biggest shareholder of the company, according to Refinitiv data.
