Qatar Airways has struck a deal with Airbus to delay delivery of airplanes due to the pandemic-induced travel downturn but remains in talks with Boeing about deferrals, the airline's chief executive said.
BEFORE THE BELLU.S. stock index futures rose, fueled by a rally in tech stocks, with investors focusing on economic data that is likely to show a jump in private jobs in August. European shares advanced and Asian stocks ended mostly higher as investors bet on improving economic data and more policy stimulus from Washington. The dollarextended overnight gains after positive U.S. manufacturing data. In commodities, oil prices rose, following a drop in U.S. crude inventories. Gold fell as risk sentiment rose.
STOCKS TO WATCH
Deals Of The Day
• Apollo Global Management Inc (APO). Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) said it had entered into a $5.5 billion real estate investment partnership with a consortium led by the company. ADNOC said in a statement that the transaction will result in upfront proceeds of $2.7 billion and is expected to close before year-end. "The strategic investment will leverage the rental income streams from select ADNOC real estate assets under a 24-year master lease agreement," it added. Under the real estate transaction, which ADNOC said was one of the region’s largest, private equity firm Apollo led a consortium of institutional investors to acquire a 49% stake in Abu Dhabi Property Leasing Holding Company, a wholly owned ADNOC affiliate. ADNOC will retain a 51% majority stake, maintaining full ownership and control over the select real estate and social infrastructure assets, it added.
In Other News
• Amazon.com Inc (AMZN). The company has added insurance and even gold to its menu of financial services in India, to expand its customer base and attract more subscribers to its Prime loyalty programme in a battleground growth market. The push ramps up competition as financial technology (fin-tech) rivals and their deep-pocketed foreign backers struggle for profitability in a predominantly cash-based economy where about 190 million adults do not have bank accounts. To boost online payments, Amazon launched its Amazon Pay digital wallet in 2016. It has since introduced a credit card, signed up to a state-backed payments network, and processes payments for movie and flight tickets as well as telephone and utility bills. It began offering auto insurance in July and gold investment products in August - both a first for Amazon.
• Boeing Co (BA). Qatar Airways has struck a deal with Airbus to delay delivery of airplanes due to the pandemic-induced travel downturn but remains in talks with Boeing about deferrals, the airline's chief executive said. "We have the ability to bring forward the deliveries if there is a rebound in air travel," Qatar Airways CEO Akbar al-Baker said of the Airbus deal at the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit, without providing further details. Al-Baker said the airline had not reached an agreement with Boeing.
• Citigroup Inc (C). A Citigroup China unit has received a domestic fund custody licence from the China Securities Regulatory Commission, the bank said, the latest foreign financial firm to expand its presence in mainland China. Citi is the first U.S. bank to receive such a licence, which will allow it to hold securities for safekeeping on behalf of mutual funds and private funds domiciled in China, once it has passed an onsite inspection.
• Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM). The company is assessing possible worldwide job cuts, a spokesman said, after the company announced a voluntary lay-off programme in Australia. "We have evaluations underway on a country-by-country basis to assess possible additional efficiencies to right-size our business and make it stronger for the future," spokesman Casey Norton, based at the company headquarters in Irving, Texas, said in emailed comments to Reuters. In Australia, Exxon said it had completed a review of its current and future project work in the country and was seeking volunteers to quit the company. The company did not say what percentage of its workforce it was seeking to cut, but said in Australia it would consider all employees who expressed an interest in voluntary redundancy.
• Medtronic Plc (MDT). The company on Tuesday said it would cut costs by $450 million to $475 million a year by fiscal 2023 as the medical device maker embarks on a restructuring exercise to create focused "operating units" from its existing businesses. The company said in a regulatory filing it would move to the new model beginning in its fiscal third quarter and that the operating units would focus on specific therapy areas. The world's largest standalone medical device maker is also assessing the impact of these changes to the reporting of its four business segments: minimally invasive therapies group, restorative therapies group, diabetes group and cardiac and vascular group. As a result of the restructuring program, the company expects to incur $400 million-$450 million in costs by the end of fiscal 2022.
• Netflix Inc (NFLX). The streaming giant and Russia's National Media Group (NMG) have set up a partnership to run the U.S. group's Russian service, NGM said in a statement. Netflix's international version has been available in Russia since 2015. "National Media Group confirms its partnership with Netflix in Russia. The holding becomes the operator of Netflix service in Russia," Olga Plaskina, NMG chief executive, said in a statement.
• Orthofix Medical Inc (OFIX). The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) on Tuesday issued a joint $2.5 million award to two external analysts who flagged financial reporting abuses by the company, the agency and the lawyers for the analysts said in separate statements. The case is unusual because company whistleblowers are typically more likely to be insiders and legal questions have been raised in the past as to whether outsiders using public information can qualify for an award under the SEC's landmark whistleblower program introduced following the 2007-09 financial crisis.
• Ovintiv Inc (OVV). The oil and gas producer said on Tuesday it would end a nearly eight-year joint venture with China's state-owned firm PetroChina in the Duvernay shale region in west-central Alberta. The two parties have agreed to partition the Duvernay acreage and related infrastructure, Ovintiv said. Ovintiv served as the operator under the joint venture and each company will now independently own and operate their interests.
• Tesla Inc (TSLA). The company’s CEO Elon Musk is scheduled to meet German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier on Wednesday during a visit to Germany, coalition sources told Reuters. The Silicon Valley entrepreneur said in July Tesla was building "RNA microfactories" for coronavirus vaccine developer CureVac in Germany. Additionally, Tesla is building an electric car plant just outside Berlin. Separately, the proxy advisory firm Glass Lewis said late on Tuesday it had recommended Tesla's investors to vote in favor of re-electing Chairwoman Robyn Denholm after having earlier opposed her re-election in June.

ANALYSTS' RECOMMENDATION
• American Airlines Group Inc (AAL). Berenberg cuts rating to sell from hold and cuts target price to $10 from $14, anticipating slower revenue recovery and lesser flexibility from U.S. Tresury loans which adds to equity risks.
• JAMF Holding Corp (JAMF). Barclays raises target price to $41 from $40, reflecting on solid second-quarter results and confidence for the second half of the year.
• Lululemon Athletica Inc (LULU). Piper Sandler raises target price to $396 from $365, anticipating better long-term growth fueled by accelerating demand and consumer behavior shifting towards comfort and exercise clothing.
• Planet Fitness Inc (PLNT). Piper Sandler raises target price to $81 from $61, stating that near-term member cancellation trends for gyms open several months appear to be moderating and national advertising starting next week should help new member growth.
